I had the pleasure of participating in the California Association of Collaborative Courts Conference 2021 this September. It was a great experience, getting to learn from the intersection of all cross functional teams which compose and contribute to the success of drug court programs in California. I made some new friends, learned a lot about different teams perspectives, and had a really nice time joining the Case management and Court coordinators teams sessions.
Here is my summary of my experience at the C.A.C.C. conference this year, and the sessions I had the honor to join. Plus my synopsis on how our service can help each of these teams excel:
Court Coordinators Session:
Led by: Laura Martinez, Treatment Court Coordinator for San Bernardino County
A fun session that occurred outdoors, it was great to get a fresh air (pun intended) perspective on how court coordinators could use more resources for funding.
The overarching theme of this session was clear to me, court coordinators have a lot of responsibility and making sure their programs stay well funded is another big piece of the puzzle for them. It seemed as if most programs lean on their court coordinators to manage budgets and work on grant funding. I was really impressed to learn how court coordinators wear so many hats, all while serving their clients and communities.
A bulb went off for me, our Client Recovery App can be a great extra “staff member” for court coordinators. Court coordinators can off board some of their tasks by providing their clients with the Client Recovery App. Plus Court coordinators can leverage the admin portal’s automation capabilities to streamline the experience for their clients as well, putting the onus on the client for many phase requirements versus on the coordinator.
With the collaborative nature of the Admin Portal, coordinators can give updates and keep their team members, like Judges or Chiefs, in the loop at all times by simply providing them with their own user login accounts for easy reporting.
Case Managers Session:
Led by Dr. Shola & Roxy Walnum with Mental Health Systems San Diego County
An awesome presentation by the tandem rockstars of San Diego County’s Mental Health System, covering best practices for Case Managers and new additions to their program.
This program goes above and beyond for its clients from assessment to aftercare. Mental Health Systems of San Diego County recently rolled out their ‘Discharged Planning’ component of their program to make sure that once a client graduates the program they continue to receive support in their recovery journey. This holistic approach to case management is inspiring to see, and it’s exactly the same philosophy that One Step has taken in the development of our Client Recovery App. Giving your clients tools from day 1 in the program until many years to come after graduation is the best approach to continue and maintain low recidivism rates.
Mental Health Systems of San Diego County does a great job at creating community amongst their clients, with sports teams and even entire leagues being born from the community. This community approach to building peer to peer support was a huge inspiration for the Client Recovery App’s ‘Community’ feature which allows for peer to peer support and collaboration.
Data Equals Dollars, Grant Funding Session:
Led by Dr. Gregory Robinson with Alameda County & Dianne Marshall formally with Mendocino County
First of all, I loved the name of this session because it’s true. Without data it is really hard to validate the success of your program. Without data it’s really hard to evaluate your program and identify strengths and areas for improvement. Without data it’s really hard to submit a grant proposal with substantial evidence to confirm your achievements and outline how you will approach your goals.
One blaring data point from the session was learning that 40% of Case managers time is spent doing data entry!
If you love making data driven decisions, then you’re going to love our Admin Portal and all of the passive data it collects automatically for you simply from all of the activity from your client’s on their Client Recovery App. No duplicate data entry is ever required!
One Step’s Outcome Dashboard will help your program collect data for:
- External Audits / Evaluations
- Reporting updates to your team, supervisors and public officials
- Grant writing
- Operational Tune Ups
- Clinical treatment plan creation / iteration
- Treatment provider partner evaluation
Shout out to the entire team at C.A.C.C. for organizing and hosting such a wonderful event for our industry. One Step hopes to be a participant in next year’s conference, and a lifelong partner to the Collaborative Court community!
