Are you passionate about supporting people on their journey to recovery? Do you envision opening a recovery home in New Hampshire to provide a safe and supportive place? If so, you may be considering joining NHCORR (New Hampshire Coalition of Recovery Residences). In this guide we’ll explore what it takes to join NHCORR, the benefits of certification, and challenges you may encounter.

  1. Understanding Certification and Benefits. There are no requirements made by the state when opening a home in New Hampshire. But, there are significant benefits to becoming certified by NHCORR. Certification allows your home to work with drug court programs. It will also allow you to receive referrals from state agencies. This shows residents and their loved ones that your home uses the best practices in recovery.

  2. Application Process and Timeline. To begin the certification process, there’s n application fee of $275. The timeline for certification is mostly driven by the house operator. The home must be open and operating at 60% capacity for 60 days before certification. Most of the time, your sober home will be certified within 3 to 4 months. But some operators have the flexibility to take more time if needed.

  3. Benefits of Certification. Certification brings a range of benefits, including referrals from state agencies. When you join NHCORR you’ll receive housing assistance for residences, and advocacy by NHCORR. Not to mention, you’ll receive ongoing education on best practices. Additionally, certified homes are part of an ombudsman process. They’ll also be able to make a public statement that they are following best practices.

  4. Challenges Faced. When starting on your own you may find it’s difficult to fill your house without state assistance. Developing your own policies and procedures can also be hard if you don’t know where to start. But with NHCORR they ensure you have the right guidance to run a successful business.

  5. The Importance of Passion and Commitment. Operating a recovery home is not just a business venture. It requires a deep passion and commitment to supporting individuals in recovery. Some may think owning more than one home can be a money maker. The reality is that operator must be fully and personally invested for the house to run well. If you, as an owner, aren’t present or passionate the house won’t be successful.

Joining NHCORR and obtaining certification for your recovery home in New Hampshire can be a rewarding but challenging journey. By understanding the process, recognizing the benefits, and completely committing you can make a meaningful impact. With each step you build a stronger, more supportive community.
