This past weekend, I had the privilege of attending RecoverCon 2021 in Dixon, Illinois. To start, I’d like to express my gratitude for Gerald Lott and his team at Sauk Valley Voices of Recovery for hosting a wonderful conference!
The conference presented a variety of opportunities to hear from individuals supporting and supported by recovery organizations. In addition, the conference featured some captivating presentations and open discussions.
My Top 3 presentations included:
- Dora Dantzler-Wright’s presentation on the work of a Recovery Community Organization and a ROSC. Dora is without question, one of my favorite One Step customers! It was amazing to hear about the work that she and her husband John are completing with Chicago Recovering Communities Coalition!
- Tara Moseley Hyde from Young People in Recovery – Tara presented on the work that her organization does to engage with and support young people that are in recovery. It was fantastic to hear of the resources that they provide and the success of their model in places across the country.
- Another favorite segment of mine was the Political Panel which featured Illinois State Representative Maurice West. Maurice and his colleagues answered questions from the attendees and discussed the government’s role in assisting the recovery space. I was thoroughly impressed by the cooperative nature of what I saw during this open discussion.
It is a beautiful thing to watch when different people come together to promote recovery. The conference and the conversations that I had during it, left me feeling very reassured about technology’s role in recovery moving forward!
